I had just walked past a colleagueโs workspace, quietly, at a good pace, heading in the opposite direction.
She took one quick glanceโฆ and thought she saw me with a bald head!
In a state of shock, she IMMEDIATELY stopped what she was doing and went looking for me. Room one – not there.
Room two – still no sign of me.
The last option? The ladies’ conveniences.
She walked in, found one cubicle occupied, and called out loud:
โCharity, is that you Iโve seen who has gone bald? Why have you cut your hair?โ She asked twice before I recognised her voice and asked, “You followed me in here to ask me that?!”๐ “Why?”
You see, she thought I had gone completely bald and was trying to figure out what kind of pressure I was under that could have driven me to such a drastic change.
Of course, I hadnโt gone bald. I had gotten my hair done in tiny cornrows with the ends neatly tucked in – sleek, low-profile, and apparently… bald-looking!๐
We laughed about it – loud, hearty laughter. But when the laughter settled, I was left thinking…
Your personal brand isnโt just what you post online or how you dress for presentations. Itโs the quiet consistency you show up with every day, in how you carry yourself, how people expect to find you, and what emotional cues they associate with your presence, even your hair!
Sometimes, people donโt even realise how much they see you, until something changes. This struck me!
So, todayโs reminder is this:
You matter more than you think.
How you show up, mentally, emotionally, physically, makes an impression.
Your presence is part of your personal brand – Donโt underestimate it.
Proverbs 31:25 “She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come.”
